2023 Nico Toscano Concerto Competition
Senior Division
A 2023 graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Sophia Klin performs as a violinist around the region with ensembles such as the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphoria, and more. As a chamber musician, she has recently been featured in the Friends of Vienna concert series in Buffalo and as a cast member in IF: String Quartet Theatre in Syracuse, a production combining chamber music with immersive theatre. With a strong interest in contemporary music, Sophia has performed numerous orchestral, chamber, and solo works of the past few decades and has worked with many living composers. She joined the ROCmusic faculty in 2023 as a violin instructor.
Sophia has also been an active performer in her hometown of Binghamton, NY, playing in the Binghamton Baroque Orchestra for several years and performing as a soloist with the Binghamton Youth Symphony and Binghamton Community Orchestra. In addition to violin, she occasionally performs on tuba, voice, and steel drums.
Junior Division
Rebecca Lee, 17, is a senior at the Harley School in Rochester, NY. She studies violin under Professor Renée Jolles at Eastman and is a student in the Eastman Community Music School Pre-Collegiate Diploma Program (Violin). An avid orchestral and chamber musician, Becca is the concertmistress for the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO) and has been selected for the 2023 NYSSMA All-State Orchestra. She was a member of the ECMC Scholarship Quartet that received the Best Ensemble Award at the Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music Competition (2022).
Also skilled in piano, Becca was the winner of the RPYO Concerto Competition, the Mildred and Julius Ness Award for Piano at the Rochester Philharmonic League Young Artist Auditions, and Jo Amish Young Artist Competition (Penfield Symphony Orchestra), and the Young Artist Competition (Geneseo Symphony Orchestra) in 2023. Alongside her parents and her brother, Noah, she is a member of the "Forget-Me-Not" family ensemble, which has staged more than 80 concerts for elders with memory issues in healthcare facilities. Becca is also a member of the Worship Team at the Browncroft Community Church in Penfield, NY.
