Vibrant voices of living American composers

Steve Reich at 90.

One of the most influential living composers, Steve Reich turns 90 this October. To celebrate, Cordancia Chamber Orchestra and vocal ensemble Quince present Reich’s Tehillim, an ecstatic setting of Hebrew psalm texts with hypnotic overlapping melodies. Four singers and twenty-four instruments come together through Reich’s memorable and unmistakable rhythmic drive.

Courtney Bryan’s Requiem, composed for Quince and commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, combines a small New Orleans-inspired band of instruments with the four voices of Quince in a reverent multicultural requiem. Bryan pulls in influences from neo-shamanistic rituals and the Tibetan Book of the Dead alongside texts from Catholic and Protestant funerary rites.
