He subsequently attended the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance. In 2006, Marcos relocated to Albuquerque, NM, to undertake graduate studies at the University of New Mexico, culminating in a Master of Music degree in violin performance under the instruction of Dr. Cármelo de los Santos. At Hochstein, he also maintains a large and flourishing studio, providing instruction in both traditional and Suzuki violin and viola to students spanning all age groups. In 2022, in collaboration with two other string educators, Marcos initiated a Suzuki in the Schools based orchestra program at the Rochester Prep Charter schools, providing daily instruction in violin, viola, cello, and bass to elementary and middle school students.

An experienced performer, Marcos dedicated many years to the Theatro São Pedro Chamber Orchestra and frequently performed as a guest violinist with both the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra and the FUNDARTE Chamber Orchestra. He is currently a member of the Cordancia Chamber Orchestra, where he enjoys collaborating with Rochester-area musicians on a diverse repertoire.
